CrossCart has an experienced and dedicated team of employees and key consultants.  In connection with initiation of a clinical program and expanding of development activities, CrossCart expects to identify additional personnel to augment the current team. 

Kevin R. Stone, M.D.
Kevin R. Stone, M.D., is CrossCart’s founder, Chairman and Chief Scientist.  Dr. Stone is a practicing orthopaedic surgeon and Chairman of The Stone Foundation for Sports Medicine and Arthritis Research at The Stone Clinic in San Francisco.  Dr. Stone specializes in sports medicine, with a special interest in knee and shoulder injuries, and has lectured around the world as an expert in orthopaedic sports medicine, xenotransplantation, cartilage and meniscal growth, replacement and repair.  Dr. Stone is the named inventor on fifty issued patents with additional patents pending, has received nine research grants, and has over forty publications.  Dr. Stone was the founding scientist and former CEO of ReGen Biologics, Inc. and Joint Juice, Inc. 

Thomas J. Turek
Thomas Turek is CrossCart’s Vice President of Research & Development.  Turek is a senior scientist specializing in orthopaedic research, product development and biomedical engineering.  Turek joined CrossCart in 1999 from Genetics Institute, Inc. where he spent eight years working in the Department of Musculoskeletal Sciences, Department of Bone Biology and Applications and the Department of Bone Research.  While at Genetics Institute, Turek worked on the development of the InFuse™ device with bone morphogenetic protein (BMP).  Prior to joining Genetics Institute Turek conducted research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Department of Chemical Engineering.  Turek has over fourteen years experience in applied research and orthopaedic product development.  Turek has co-authored over 40 scientific articles and abstracts and has been awarded several U.S. and international patents.  Turek has a B.S. degree from Michigan State University, Department of Biochemistry.

 

 

Key Consultants

Uri Galili, Ph.D.
Dr. Galili serves in a consulting role as the Company’s chief immunologist, senior scientist and Scientific Advisory Board member.  Dr. Galili has over 170 publications, and his research has been instrumental in furthering the understanding of immunology in organ transplantation.  Dr. Galili is a Professor of Immunology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA.  Previously, Dr. Galili has held academic appointments as a Professor of Immunology at Rush University in Chicago, IL, at the Medical College of Pennsylvania (currently known as Drexel University College of Medicine) and at the University of California San Francisco.  Dr. Galili received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Hebrew University Medical School, in Jerusalem.  Dr. Galili did his postdoctoral training at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm Sweden.   

William Hall, V.M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Hall is board certified Veterinary Pathologist and is a consultant to the Company on matters relating to toxicological pathology and immunopathology.  Dr. Hall has extensive expertise in infectious diseases including twenty seven years experience in toxicologic pathology and nineteen years experience in immunopathology.  Dr. Hall is the former Director of the Molecular and Immunopathology Department of Pathology Associates, a Charles River Company.  Dr. Hall specializes in pathology review of subchronic and chronic toxicity studies in a variety of species including non-human primates.   

Thomas Hansen
Thomas Hansen is head of Biomechanics Research and Development Center, an independent biomechanical testing facility located in Phoenix, AZ.  Hansen has conducted mechanical and biomechanical testing on CrossCart’s products.  Hanson previously worked at the Harrington Arthritis Research Foundation in Phoenix, AZ.  Hansen has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Arizona State University and has more than twenty years experience as an independent contractor for controlled, regulatory driven materials testing and FDA reporting.

Winston Wicomb, Ph.D.
Dr. Wicomb is a biochemist with twenty years experience in transplantation biochemistry and transplantation research.  Dr. Wicomb has over fifty publications with the major focus of his work as a Principle Investigator with California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute, Department of Transplantation, San Francisco, CA.   Dr. Wicomb is currently affiliated with Corixa Corporation in Seattle, WA.   Dr. Wicomb received his Ph.D. in Medical Biochemistry from Cape Town University, South Africa.  His role with CrossCart includes process biochemistry and scientific review.

William Wustenberg, D.V.M.
Dr. Wustenberg is an independent consultant providing technical, regulatory and product development support to CrossCart.  Dr. Wustenberg has over 20 years experience with clearance and registration of products with the FDA and EPA.  Dr. Wustenberg was previously affiliated with ViroMed Laboratories, Inc., where he developed the biocompatibility testing division for medical device manufacturer clients.  Wustenberg received his B.S. Degree from Willamette University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Washington State University.  His role with CrossCart includes consultation in areas ranging from preclinical and clinical safety to manufacturing testing programs for comprehensive biomaterial quality systems.  Dr. Wustenberg has also advised the Company on regulatory policy. 

David W. Feigal, Jr., M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Feigal serves as a senior regulatory and strategy consultant to CrossCart.   Dr. Feigal is a partner in NDA partners, LLP and a Research Professor at Arizona State University.  Prior to joining NDA, Dr. Feigal was the Director at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health at the FDA where he worked since 1992.   Dr. Feigal earned an M.D. degree from Stanford University and an M.P.H. from the University of California Berkeley.  Dr. Feigal joined the UCSF School of Medicine faculty in 1984 with joint appointments in the Departments of Medicine and Epidemiology and Biostatistics.  In 1989 he moved to the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.

James Bennington, M.D.
Dr. Bennington is a former chair of Anatomical Pathology and Clinical Laboratories at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

Daniel Stites, M.D.
Dr. Stites is an Emeritus Professor and former chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, where he taught for 32 years.  Dr. Stites is trained in internal medicine and pathology and is a board certified allergist and immunologist. 

Donald Speer, M.D.
Dr. Speer is a Professor Emeritus of Orthopaedic Surgery and Anatomy at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.  He has also served as director of Pediatric Orthopedics.  His specialty is in pediatric orthopaedics and musculoskeletal tumors.  Dr. Speer's research interests include morphogenetic control mechanisms on skeletal development, the biomechanics of the growth plate, collagen fiber architecture of connective tissues, polarized light microscopy assessment of organic molecular organization, and the embryology and mechanisms of congenital musculoskeletal deformities.  Dr. Speer has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and textbooks.

 

Clinical Advisory Board

Gary Friedlaender, M.D.
Dr. Friedlaender is a Professor and Chairman of the Yale Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.  His clinical focus is in musculoskeletal oncology and adult and pediatric reconstructive procedures.  He focuses on research involving the mechanisms of repair and regeneration of the skeleton.

Terry Whipple, M.D.
Dr. Whipple practices orthopaedic surgery, with a concentration in sports medicine, in Richmond, VA.  Dr. Whipple is the former Chairman of the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Lex Simpson, M.D.
Dr. Simpson is a practicing orthopaedic surgeon and Chief of the Weston Campus of the Cleveland Clinic, Florida.  His specialty interests are in total joint replacement and sports medicine.
